Learn how to make fake 3d text in photoshop, pretty slick too!

Step 1: Start off with a new 300x300px document with a white background. Go ahead and type out some text, I used "iDt" for iDesignThis. The color really doesn't matter, just don't use white or black.

Step 2: Now with the new text layer select, go up to Layer > Type > Convert To Shape. Duplicate this layer now. Now link the two layers together, in PS CS, just click the little blank box next to the layer. In PS CS2, you need to select both layers using CTRL + Click, and than right click and select "Link Layers." Now with the bottom text layer selected, click the icon near the bottom and choose "Bevel and Emboss" from the menu. Just use the defaults and hit "OK." Now go up to Edit > Free Transform (CTRL + T). Hold down Shift, Ctrl, and Alt and drag one of the bottom corner points outwards so you have something like below. Hit enter to confirm the changes.

Step 3: Now with the bottom layer still selected, unlink the two layers. Select the "Move Tool" (V). Hold down Shift, and press the Down Arrow on your keyboard just once. This will move the bottom layer ten pixels down.

Step 4: Hold down the Alt key, and start pressing the Up Arrow on your keyboard till you get a connection like below, you will have a bunch of layers now.

Step 5: Now hide your background layer, and go up to Layer > Merge Visible, go ahead and unhide the background layer, and do whatever you want. I rotated mine a bit, enjoy!
